The Los Angeles Jewish Symphony Chamber Players presents Klassics to Klezmer with Noreen Green.
Los Angeles Jewish Symphony Artistic Director and Conductor Dr. Noreen Green is known worldwide for her knowledge and skill in presenting music with Jewish themes. The symphony’s work has been heard locally at the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Ford Theatres, Royce Hall, American Jewish University’s Gindi Auditorium and across the country and globe with a touring ensemble. Boston Court patrons can hear their work on this special evening and on the L.A. Jewish Symphony’s recording of the oratorio “Women of Valor” by Andrea Clearfield.

Founded in 1994 by Dr. Noreen Green, Artistic Director and Conductor, the LAJS has performed throughout the Southland at such venues as the Walt Disney Concert Hall, The Ford Theatres, the Saban Theatre, Wadsworth Theatre, UCLA’s Royce Hall, the University of La Verne, Chapman University, and the Gindi Auditorium at American Jewish University. The LAJS serves the community with free family-oriented events, such as KlezFest, a klezmer music and dance JAM Session at the Ford, and a public concert to conclude the LAJS’s outreach education program, A Patchwork of Cultures: Exploring the Sephardic-Latino Connection. Each year, this program takes hundreds of Los Angeles County grade-school students on a thrilling musical journey of discovery.
The LAJS collaborates with artists from communities throughout Southern California. We’ve performed with such groups as the Faithful Central Bible Church Choir, the Agape International Choir, the Mariachi Divas, the Yuval Ron Ensemble, and many others. The LAJS has showcased great artists such as Hershey Felder and the late Theodore Bikel, as well as many up-and-coming young musicians as concerto soloists. Young composers are nurtured by the LAJS as well; we actively commission new works and our concerts often feature world, US or West Coast premieres. Performance partnerships with the internationally acclaimed dance company BodyTRAFFIC and years of humanitarian aid concerts with KindredSPIRITS are emblematic of the LAJS’s collaborative mission.

Dr. Noreen Green is the Artistic Director and Conductor of the Los Angeles Jewish Symphony, which she founded in 1994. Known worldwide for her knowledge and skill in presenting music with Jewish themes, she has served as guest conductor in the United States, Israel, South Africa and Canada. For two decades the Music Director at Valley Beth Shalom in Encino, Dr. Green also conducts the AJU Choir, which she founded in 2014; and the American Jewish Symphony, a touring ensemble that debuted in 2015 to a sold-out audience at the Queensborough Performing Arts Center in New York.
Under Dr. Green’s direction, the LAJS has performed at the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Ford Theatres, Royce Hall at UCLA, Gindi Auditorium at AJU and other venues. Special guest performers have included such personalities as Billy Crystal, Tovah Feldshuh, Leonard Nimoy, Randy Newman, Theodore Bikel, Laraine Newman, Valerie Harper, Dave Koz, Marvin Hamlisch, Roslyn Kind, David Benoit, Hershey Felder and others. The LAJS and its Teaching Artists serve nearly 1000 elementary students annually with an innovative outreach education program, A Patchwork of Cultures: Exploring the Sephardic-Latino Connection.
Dr. Green has received numerous awards from prestigious organizations nationwide, including the National Foundation of Jewish Culture, the State of Israel Bonds, the National Association of Women Business Owners, and recognition from California Legislature Assembly Member Bob Blumenfield for creating the Interfaith Tribute Choir and Orchestra Concert for Remembering 9/11. In 2012, Zev Yaroslavsky and the LA County Board of Supervisors honored her with a Commendation for her contribution to the Los Angeles arts scene.
In great demand as a lecturer and educator, Dr. Green has spoken at numerous national and international symposia and for the LA Philharmonic’s Upbeat Live series. In 2015, she gave the keynote speech at the annual Spring Conference of the Women’s League for Conservative Judaism in Irvine, CA. In 2016, she presented a workshop on Jewish music at the American Choral Directors Association Western Division Conference and delivered a talk on Jewish composers in film at the Magnes Collection for Jewish Art and Life in Berkeley, CA. In 2017, Dr. Green gave a highly acclaimed lecture-concert, A Celebration of Women and Music through a Jewish Lens, in Sydney, Australia. She was chosen to present an Interest Session at the National Conference of the American Choral Directors Association on the subject of Jewish choral music from the Sephardic and Ashkenazic traditions.
A long-time dream project for Dr. Green has just come to fruition. The recording of the LAJS’s first professional CD, the oratorio Women of Valor by Andrea Clearfield, has been released on the Albany label.
