Daniel Zaitchik is a singer-songwriter and musical theatre composer, lyricist and bookwriter. As a singer-songwriter, he has performed at venues including Joe’s Pub, 54 Below, Rockwood Music Hall, and The Bootleg Theater. His distinctive voice and expressive lyrics have earned him comparisons to artists ranging from Nina Simone to Rufus Wainwright to Stephen Sondheim.
Zaitchik’s musicals include Darling Grenadine, Picnic at Hanging Rock, and The Costume. His work as been developed and produced at theatres including the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center, Roundabout Theatre Company, Lincoln Center Theater, Ars Nova, and Goodspeed Musicals. Darling Grenadine will play the Marriott Theatre in Chicago this summer, followed by its off-Broadway debut next winter.
Zaitchik is the recipient of the 2017 Kleban Prize for most promising musical theatre lyricist. Other honors include The Ester B. Kahn Career Entry Award from Boston University, the Frederick Loewe Award from New Dramatists, and The Georgia Bogarduz Holof Lyricist Award.
