About the Artists
Panic Duo
Panic Duo is a Los-Angeles based ensemble dedicated to the performance of music of our time. Featuring violinist Pasha Tseitlin and pianist Nic Gerpe, the Duo’s performances of contemporary music have been described as “exciting”, “virtuosic”, and “irresistible”. Engaging audiences into unfamiliar music through a combination of dialogue and uncompromising musicality, Panic Duo has brought a variety of repertoire to audiences since 2009.
Unique in their facility with works from different styles and periods – classical and contemporary, jazz, modernist, world-music inspired – Panic Duo’s performances feature surprising juxtapositions of works. On the cutting edge of new music, their repertoire includes pieces by John Adams, John Corigliano, Nico Muhly, and Jennifer Higdon, and they have collaborated with composers such as Gernot Wolfgang, Anne LeBaron, Gilda Lyons, Isaac Schankler and Juhi Bansal, commissioning, premiering, and recording new works.
Panic Duo also performed the opening concert of the 2013 Paderewski Festival in Paso Robles, to great acclaim. They “wowed the audience… the Festival opened with thunderous applause” (Scott Brennan, Paso Robles Daily News), and “played with great bravado, passion and skill” (Krysta Close, USC Polish Music Center).
Recent performance highlights include a featured concert on the People Inside Electronics series, including the World Premiere of Anne LeBaron’s Fissure, for violin, piano and electronics. The Duo has performed on the Los Angeles-based new music concert series Tuesdays at Monk Space, Sundays Live at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and in New York City on the Downtown Music at Grace Series and The Phoenix Concerts.
Pasha Tseitlin
As a classical concert performer, Pasha Tseitlin is distinguished by his virtuosity, intensity, and heartfelt sensitivity. Barbara Kraft of Time Magazine described Pasha’s performing as “…cliff hanging…crackling with visceral energy.” Or as San Diego critic for the LA times Kenneth Herman put it: “simply irresistible.” Pasha has performed as a soloist with major ensembles such as San Diego Symphony, St. Petersburg Chamber Orchestra, La Jojlla Symphony, Ryanzan Philharmonic and others. He is also the the recipient of the Grand Prize and Gold Medal at the Fischoff National Chamber Competition.
Aside from performing, Pasha Tseitlin has a deep dedication to his private teaching studio based out of Los Angeles and San Diego and is passionate to sharing and education young artists about the timeless tools for a violinist to become a master at one’s instrument.
Nic Gerpe
Pianist Nic Gerpe, a Los Angeles native, has been hailed as “magnetic” and “prodigious… heroic”. L.A. Times music critic Mark Swed described his playing as “wonderfully illuminating… his tone is crystalline. His technique is dazzlingly fluid.” A dedicated proponent of new music, Nic has worked with composers such as Steve Reich, Gernot Wolfgang, and Michael Gordon, and has given numerous world premieres locally and abroad. Nic has performed in such venues as Walt Disney Concert Hall, Zipper Hall, the Wallis Annenberg Center, and the Roy and Edna Disney Cal Arts Theater. Nic’s performances have also been nationally broadcast on 91.5 KUSC and classicalkusc.org. Nic’s playing can also be heard on Gernot Wolfgang’s GRAMMY-Nominated album Passing Through.
